Schema markup (structured data) is a block of JSON-LD code that describes your page to machines in unambiguous terms: this is a business, here is its name, phone and address; this is an article, written by this person, published on this date. Search engines use it to power rich results like star ratings, FAQ dropdowns and knowledge panels. AI systems use it to confidently identify who you are before citing or recommending you.
The practical payoff is twofold. In classic search, rich results occupy more screen space and earn more clicks at the same position. In AI search, entity schema is one of the strongest signals systems have for connecting your website to your real-world business. Both of my checkers flag missing schema for a reason: it is the highest-leverage markup most sites simply don't have.
Which schema type should you use?
| Type | Use it on | What it can unlock |
|---|---|---|
| Organization | Homepage of a company or brand site | Knowledge panel, logo in results, entity recognition for AI |
| LocalBusiness | Homepage or location page of a business serving an area | Map pack signals, hours and contact info in results |
| Person | About page or personal brand homepage | Personal knowledge panel, author credibility, E-E-A-T signals |
| Article | Blog posts and news content | Headline and image in rich results, clear authorship |
| FAQPage | Any page with visible questions and answers | FAQ rich results, and the format AI answers quote most |
How to add the generated schema to your site
- Pick the type and fill the form above. Only what you fill in gets included; the generator never invents values, because incorrect markup is worse than none.
- Copy the block. It's a complete script tag, ready to paste.
- Paste it into your page. In WordPress: a Custom HTML block anywhere in the page, or your theme's header/footer snippet area. Elementor users can use an HTML widget. It's invisible to visitors.
- Validate. Run the page through Google's Rich Results Test to confirm it parses cleanly.
One rule above all: markup must match what's visible on the page. FAQ schema for questions that aren't on the page, or review stars for reviews that don't exist, can earn a manual action. Describe reality, and schema only helps.
Already have some schema?
Many WordPress SEO plugins output basic WebPage and Article markup automatically. That's a start, but the entity types that matter most for AI search (Organization, Person, LocalBusiness with real details) usually need to be added deliberately. Run your page through the free SEO analyzer to see what schema you currently have, and the AI visibility checker to see whether your entity signals are strong enough for AI systems to identify you. For the full setup, including connecting your schema into one coherent graph, that's what I do.
Frequently asked questions
Will schema markup improve my rankings directly?
Schema is not a direct ranking factor, but it changes how your results look (rich results earn more clicks) and how confidently machines understand your business. Higher click-through and clearer entity signals both feed back into performance, which is why well-marked-up sites tend to win over time.
Where exactly do I paste the code in WordPress?
The easiest way: edit the page, add a Custom HTML block (or an Elementor HTML widget) anywhere in the content, and paste the whole script tag. It renders invisibly. Site-wide types like Organization belong on the homepage; page-specific types like Article or FAQ go on their own pages.
Can I use more than one schema type on the same page?
Yes. A homepage often carries Organization plus FAQPage, and a blog post carries Article plus FAQPage for its question section. Paste each block separately, and make sure every block describes content that's actually on the page.
Does this replace my SEO plugin's schema?
It complements it. Plugins like Yoast output page-level basics automatically. This generator covers the deliberate, detail-rich blocks (your business entity, your FAQ content) that plugins can't fill in for you because they don't know your details.
Is this generator free and is my data stored?
Free, no signup, and everything runs in your browser. Nothing you type is stored or sent anywhere. Copy your markup and you're done.
